Admission Requirements In order to be admitted to the Master's degree course
in Sociology, students must hold a Bachelor's degree
in Sociology or in a related field from another accredited
inland or international institution of higher education.

What will I learn?

This Master's degree course builds on the basic knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's degree course in Sociology, but it puts a distinct focus on scientific research. Besides expanding their knowledge of the theories and methods of empirical social research, students will learn how to critically evaluate sociological concepts and how to apply the acquired skills to selected fields of specialization. Students will be enabled to independently conceptualize, organize and conduct sociological investigations, and to create sociological experts' reports.

Which career opportunities do I have?

The qualifications acquired during the Master's degree course in Sociology provide students with a specific profile in comparison and in a competitive situation with other graduates of social science. It makes them attractive candidates for private employers and offers an academic professional training. Graduates in Sociology can choose from the following occupations: university and non-university research institutions in social science; applied social research (e.g., market research and opinion polling), public administration, adult education, on-the-job training and further education, analysis and counselling for social problem situations (e.g., social work, social services) and in social planning (e.g., the planning of social work in the private and governmental sector), sociologically relevant occupations in economic enterprises (e.g., human resource management, organizational consulting, human resource development, internal counselling and planning), media and new information technologies (e.g., PR), organizations and parties, in Social Profit Organizations and NGOs, or in leisure and culture institutions.

    During games when there are no fans in local football stadiums, deep acoustic insights into the inner workings of coaches can clearly be heard in TV broadcasts, due to the lack of background noise.Nevertheless, emotional outbursts and arguments among players and coaches have decreased considerably overall, in corona-related “behind closed door matches". Salzburg researchers calculated this using the example of games at FC Red Bull Salzburg. In contrast, more goals were scored across Austria.

    The new edition of the journal for practical philosophy is now online, with its finger on the pulse is also takes into account one topic that is shaping us like no other:the Corona pandemic.     With the PLUS Talk, a new form of communication was introduced to the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg in 2020. Within the framework of this format members of the rectorate discuss certain key issues with employees of the PLUS, students and public representatives.
