JESH-CROATIA Call for Applications 2020

Via the Joint Excellence in Science and Humanities (JESH - Croatia) programme, the Austrian Academy of Sciences promotes the development and intensification of cooperation between outstanding young researchers from Croatia and scholars in Austria.

In order to support young researchers in Croatia, who have been affected to a great extent by the Covid-19 pandemie and the earthquake in Zagreb in March 2020, the Austrian Academy of Sciences opens a call for scientists and scholars in Croatia.

Target group: Invited to apply are young scholars and scientists (max. 10 years after doctorate/PhD) who are doing research in Croatia and want to initiate or intensify a cooperation with researchers in Austria.

Host institutions in Austria: All institutes/departments of public universities in Austria and research institutes of the OeAW. Informations and conditions Application.

Bernd Rode Award 2020_ Call for Award

The Bernd Rode Award, a financial support up to a maximum amount of EUR 5.000, is granted to outstanding scientific and higher education collaborations between European and South-East-Asian universities in the framework of ASEA-UNINET. The Award awarded every 18 months in three categories ((junior, senior, project-based) aims to enhance and extend the research possibilities in the context of projects backed by ASEA-UNINET. The amount of money awarded has to be reinvested into an ASEA-UNINET-supported project (e.g. for travel expenses, research stay).

If you have participated in any ASEA-UNINET research project in the last five years (including ongoing projects), you have the possibility to apply for the Bernd Rode Award.

    The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, in cooperation with Doctors without Borders, is opening a Christian Doppler Laboratory for geospatial and earth observation based humanitarian technologies (gEOhum).The opening took place virtually on the 8th July 2020.
    Salzburg's church historian Prof. Dietmar W. Winkler will continue to work as a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity. Pope Francis has extended the Salzburger theologian's advisory role. Prof. Winkler was first appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. in 2008.
    At the end of March, in the middle of the Corona pandemic, Croatia was hit by a severe earthquake. With this special call ÖAW (Austrian Academy of Sciences) sets a humanitarian sign and does its utmost best to support scientific collaboration with Croatian colleagues.
    The International Data Week - a top class specialist congress with 900 participants from the field of data science - will take place for the first time in October 2023 in Europe. The city of Salzburg was able to beat numerous other applicants to be the hosts of the event. The University of Salzburg is an important cooperation partner.
    From October 2020 the University of Salzburg will be offering the new bachelor's degree „Medical Biology“. The course aims to convey the diversity of the biomedical science disciplines and therefore facilitates a multi-faceted, biological understanding for topics which are essential for medicine.The course content ranges from the small scale structure of the cell and organs and organ systems to the biology of complex interpersonal interactions.
    The Sarah-Samuel-Prize for short prose 2020 goes to Thomas Stangl for his book „Die Geschichte des Körpers (The History of the Body)“ (Droschl Verlag, Graz).
    150 participants have already taken the opportunity to register for more than 50 courses on IT and digitialisation at the ditact_women's IT summer studies at the University of Salzburg, which will take place from the 01.09.-12.09.2020.Registration is still possible until the 12. July and then the remaining places will be taken as last minute reservations.
