What will I learn?
Molecular Biosciences have gained increased significance because they deal with the molecular basics of biological processes. The Bachelor's course in Molecular Biosciences is offered by the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering & Natural Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. It offers a nationally and internationally competitive, practical professional training for biologists specializing in molecular biology. A combinational education in the subjects of genetics, cellular biology and molecular biology in Salzburg, and the subjects of organic and analytical chemistry and biophysics in Linz secures a future-oriented education. In sum, the course provides students with a deeper understanding of the molecular processes of a living cell.
Which career opportunities do I have?
With the solid and combinational education in biolgical and analytical subjects, students acquire a set of tools which will allow them to meet the challenges of modern professional life. Graduates can choose from a broad variety of careers in private and public enterprises and institutions. Occupations for graduates in Molecular Biosciences include research in the fields of pharmacy and biomedics, biotechnology, biological and environmental analysis, and medical-diagnostic analysis. There is also a range of possible occupations in the fields of healthcare, medicine and environment, as well as in public administration and adult education.
Why Salzburg?
The Bachelor's course in Molecular Biosciences at the University of Salzburg was the first inter-university course in Austria. First and foremost, students benefit from the wide choice of biological and molecular biological subjects they can study at the University of Salzburg (basics in biology, genetics & cellular biology, biochemistry and molecular genetics). In addition, they also get to know a partner university in an early stage of their studies, and study physics & biophysics, organic & analytical chemistry, and molecular biotechnologies at the University of Linz. This inter-university course starting at the University of Salzburg prepares students both professionally and organisationally for the dynamics of modern working life.
