What will I learn?

The Joint Degree postgraduate course in Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and the Faculty of Engineering & Natural Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz is the first inter-university Master's course in Austria. The course imparts a profound understanding of the chemical, biophysical, molecular, cytological and biotechnological disciplines of life sciences. At the University of Salzburg, the MSc degree course offers lecture courses and seminars analysing complex cellular interactions related with the issues of cellular stress response, ageing and regeneration. In addition, there are seminars on the analysis of proteomes, systems biology, and functional analysis in model systems. Complementarily, the faculty in Linz offers courses dealing with biophysics, biological analysis and biotechnology.

Which career opportunities do I have?

Graduates of the Joint Degree Master's course in Molecular Biology at the Universities of Salzburg and Linz are qualified for the national and international employment market in the fields of molecular biological and biotechnological professional fields in the Academia and economy. Graduates may embark on an academic career at universities or 'Fachhochschulen', do research at pharmaceutical, clinical or medical institutes, or work in the fields of product management and marketing for chemical, pharmaceutical or biotechnological products. Further occupations include the development, quality control and production in pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical enterprises, molecular biology laboratories, biological and environmental analysis, clinical laboratories, health care at public or private institutions, risk assessment and minimization in chemical/pharmaceutical/biotechnological institutions and permission/authorization of pharmaceutical/medical products.

Why Salzburg?

The Master's course in Molecular Biosciences at the University of Salzburg was the first inter-university course in Austria. First and foremost, students benefit from the wide choice of biological and molecular biological subjects they can study at the University of Salzburg (basics in biology, genetics & cellular biology, biochemistry and molecular genetics). In addition, they also get to know a partner university in an early stage of their studies, and study physics & biophysics, organic & analytical chemistry, and molecular biotechnologies at the University of Linz. This inter-university course starting at the University of Salzburg prepares students both professionally and organisationally for the dynamics of modern working life.
