Why Salzburg?
The Department of History at the University of Salzburg offers research and teaching in seven core subjects (History of the Middle Ages, Modern History, Contemporary History, Austrian History, Non-European History and Global History, History of European Regions, as well as Economic, Social and Environmental History). Courses in Ancient History are offered by the Department of Classical Studies. Due to the individual support of the department's staff, students are able to finish their degree course on time. They study in the beautiful World Cultural Heritage site of Salzburg's old town. Most of the lecture courses and seminars, some of which are taught in English, take place in the building of the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences at Rudolfskai. By individual agreement, students may also take exams in English. A special distinction of the course offer are excursions, which are part of the BA and BEd curricula. Students travel to destinations within Austria and beyond, e.g. Cuba, Nicaragua, Ghana, Israel, Ireland, Poland, Italy, etc. The roof terrace on top of the building of the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences with a stunning view of the Fortress of Hohensalzburg invites students to study and relax.
