What will I learn?
This Master's degree course builds on the basic knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's degree course in Sociology, but it puts a distinct focus on scientific research. Besides expanding their knowledge of the theories and methods of empirical social research, students will learn how to critically evaluate sociological concepts and how to apply the acquired skills to selected fields of specialization. Students will be enabled to independently conceptualize, organize and conduct sociological investigations, and to create sociological experts' reports.

The qualifications acquired during the Master's degree course in Sociology provide students with a specific profile in comparison and in a competitive situation with other graduates of social science. It makes them attractive candidates for private employers and offers an academic professional training. Graduates in Sociology can choose from the following occupations: university and non-university research institutions in social science; applied social research (e.g., market research and opinion polling), public administration, adult education, on-the-job training and further education, analysis and counselling for social problem situations (e.g., social work, social services) and in social planning (e.g., the planning of social work in the private and governmental sector), sociologically relevant occupations in economic enterprises (e.g., human resource management, organizational consulting, human resource development, internal counselling and planning), media and new information technologies (e.g., PR), organizations and parties, in Social Profit Organizations and NGOs, or in leisure and culture institutions.
