What will I learn?

The MA course in Literary and Cultural Studies is a joint study offered by the departments of English and American Studies, German Studies, Classical Philology, Romance Studies, Slavonic Studies and the Schwerpunkt Wissenschaft & Kunst (Centre for Arts and Humanities). The specialization in Comparative Studies considers the diversity of regional, national and transnational literary and cultural phenomena from the integrated perspective of the theories and methods uniting all philologies. It examines high and popular culture and how they influence aesthetics and the media, and studies literature, culture and language in an interdisciplinary way. The focus lies on the medial conditionality of literature and its interplay with other arts and cultural forms of communication. These problems will be discussed in the three theme modules identity, transfer and hierarchy. The MA degree course is complemented by practical seminars and internships.

Which career opportunities do I have?

The MA course in Literary and Cultural Studies with a specialization in Comparative Studies prepares students for occupations in public and private educational institutions, in the culture and media sector and in research and teaching. Further career options include the promotion of literature, publishing, PR, online and print media, library and archiving work, theater and museum work, exhibition planning and organisation, art and culture management, research at universities and other research institutions, etc.
