ATTENTION


The main library has been open with restrictions since April 27th, 2020.
NEW: The library of social sciences has been open since May 18th, 2020 (only for students and staff).

All other libraries remain closed.

We kindly ask you to observe the following information regarding library use:

  • Since April 27, 2020, books can be borrowed from the main library and from May 18, 2020 at the library of Social Sciences for students and staff (teachers, scientists) of the University of Salzburg.

  • Since Monday, June 8, 2020, ordering, borrowing and returning media has been possible for all non-university library users (i.e. general / external library users).
  • It is possible to order / borrow physical media from all locations of the university library.
     
  • Borrowed media can be returned at the lending office of the main library and at the library of Social Sciences.
    Note: The media will only be booked back after a quarantine period of 7 days.
  • Returns by MAIL:
    It is now possible to return borrowed works by mail.
    The following points should be noted here -

    Please pay attention to sufficient franking (Postage costs may be prescribed to your user account). Liability for damage or loss is yours.
  • All borrowed books (even if reserved) will be extended for the entire closing time. Current due date: June 22, 2020 Automatic renewals are no longer carried out.

  • ATTENTION: Reminder fees may apply again from June 22, 2020. Please pay any incurred reminder fees before March 16, 2020

  • There are no new reminder and overdraft fees during the closing time or they are canceled for the duration of the closing.
  • All other libraries remain closed..
  • Reservations for borrowed books are retained. Provisions remain until one week after resumption of operations.
  • The book return box in front of the entrance to the main library can be used. All other return boxes from other locations cannot currently be used.
  • Interlibrary loans are not available.
  • From June 8th 2020 library cards for non-university users will be issued again.

    Researchers led by Salzburg's geoinformatics scientist Christian Neuwirth had already developed and presented a mathematical model for Covid-19 in May 2020 which examines the question of how long and intensively social distancing measures have to be maintained in order to reduce corona deaths further.
    Results of the study on media use by children and families during lockdown. Home schooling could be improved, but is on the right track. Secondary schools have a better profile. Families have learned to deal with lockdown and homeschooling.
    As a result of the current situation the updated opening times for Salzburg University library will apply from the 17th November 2020.
    A study carried out by the sleep laboratory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences on the topic of sleep under the direction Prof. Dr. Manuel Schabus is dedicated to the changes in sleep during the Covid-19 lockdown in 6 different countries (Ö, AT, UK, GR, CU, BRA). The fear, which is worrying from a psychological point of view, and which is evident across society, is also reflected in this data: 78% of those surveyed feel threatened or worried by the Covid-19 pandemic.
    Online lecture on the subject of physiology or medicine: November 25, 2020 - 6 p.m. The 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will go to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice for the discovery of the hepatitis C virus.
    Online lecture on chemistry: December 2nd 2020 - 6 p.m. Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna received the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of one of the sharpest tools in genetic engineering: the CRISPR / Cas9 genetic scissors. With this technology, researchers can modify the DNA of animals, plants and microorganisms with extremely high precision.
    The PLUS Report 2020 has been published.
    Digitization has led to an enormous spread of different forms of mobile working. Corona has brought an additional boost and has introduced home office in areas and for activities that were previously unimaginable.
    During the time of Corona, in particular, it became clear just how important it is to support students digitally in their every day university life. The project „On Track“ – stay on track combines digital and social worlds. It is starting at the right time!
