Workshop Digital News Report Network Austria

On 23 November, the Digital News Report Network Austria held its annual workshop discussing opportunities and threats in the context of digital news. Together with representatives from APA, Der Standard, Kleine Zeitung, Kurier, Oberösterreichische Nachrichten, Salzburger Nachrichten and Wiener Zeitung the research team of the UniversityDNR Network Austria of Salzburg presented current data of the digital news survey. In addition, Tristan Ferne who is responsible for research and development at the BBC gave input on new digital formats.

Adopted a part-time Professorship in Bergen

University of BergenJosef Trappel, Head of the Institute for Communication Studies, has been appointed part-time Professor at the University of Bergen, Norway, from 1 January 2014. There, he is a faculty member of the Department of Information Science and Media Studies. He will teach PhD students and hold seminars. Furthermore, he will assist and advise the University of Bergen in their attempt to set up a Journalistic Innovation and Design Lab, which is planned together with partners from the media and graphic industries in Norway. Josef Trappel intends to strengthen the relations between the two Institutes and to establish a cooperation which includes students and staff exchange and joint research endeavors.

    A study carried out by the sleep laboratory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences on the topic of sleep under the direction Prof. Dr. Manuel Schabus is dedicated to the changes in sleep during the Covid-19 lockdown in 6 different countries (Ö, AT, UK, GR, CU, BRA). The fear, which is worrying from a psychological point of view, and which is evident across society, is also reflected in this data: 78% of those surveyed feel threatened or worried by the Covid-19 pandemic.
