Dear Colleagues, Dear Students,
The new Rectorate of the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg welcomes you! We look forward to working with you at this university, which is as traditional as it is forward-looking. There are great challenges and exciting times ahead! With confidence and respect towards all employees and acknowledgement of individual responsibility, we want to create an innovative and creative environment at our university and, based on exceptional teaching and research, examine new things and put them to the tried and tested. Challenges are seen as an opportunity - with the aim of making Salzburg an internationally recognized university city. The Rectorate Team and their tasks: Hendrik Lehnert focuses on the areas of International Relations, Personnel, Communication and Structural Development. He will initiate scientific cooperation and network the university both nationally and internationally. Lehnert studied psychology and medicine in Münster and did research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School in Boston. From 2014-17 he was President of the University of Lübeck and most recently was the Director of the Medical University Hospital Lübeck.

Nicola Hüsing is Professor of Materials Chemistry and has taken over the Vice Rectorate for "Research and Sustainability". She was previously head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics of Materials. Her research interests focus on the development of new synthetic routes to functional, hybrid materials. She is a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the European Academy of Sciences.

Katja Hutter is responsible for the Vice Rectorate "Digitalization and Innovation". She is Professor for Marketing and Innovation at the University of Salzburg and Professor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck. The core themes of her research are the analysis of changing innovation landscapes and processes of digitization and innovation.

Barbara Romauer assumes the budgetary responsibility for the University of Salzburg with the Vice Rectorate "Finance and Resources". Romauer previously looked after the finances of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. She studied business administration with a focus on accounting and business taxation, as well as auditing. She has held several positions in the economy and holds a number of supervisory board mandates.

Martin Weichbold dedicates himself as the Vice Rectorate of "Academic Affairs". He is responsible as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and is also the acting President of the Austrian Society for Sociology. His main area of interest, among others, includes comparative empirical social research. For many years, he has gained extraordinary experience in teaching and teaching coordination.

    You want to start a teaching degree at the University of Salzburg and are considering choosing one ( or even two) Romance language(s) but you have some questions, uncertainties or doubts about the possibilities and the university level education in the Department of Fachbereich Romance Studies?
    The project „Digital Innovation Hub West“ is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs. In addition to public cooperation partners Austria's universities and universities of applied sciences are also involved. The University of Salzburg is also participating in this project, and is represented by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andreas Uhl (Department of Computer Sciences).
    The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, in cooperation with Doctors without Borders, is opening a Christian Doppler Laboratory for geospatial and earth observation based humanitarian technologies (gEOhum).The opening took place virtually on the 8th July 2020.
    Salzburg's church historian Prof. Dietmar W. Winkler will continue to work as a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity. Pope Francis has extended the Salzburger theologian's advisory role. Prof. Winkler was first appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. in 2008.
    At the end of March, in the middle of the Corona pandemic, Croatia was hit by a severe earthquake. With this special call ÖAW (Austrian Academy of Sciences) sets a humanitarian sign and does its utmost best to support scientific collaboration with Croatian colleagues.
    The International Data Week - a top class specialist congress with 900 participants from the field of data science - will take place for the first time in October 2023 in Europe. The city of Salzburg was able to beat numerous other applicants to be the hosts of the event. The University of Salzburg is an important cooperation partner.
    From October 2020 the University of Salzburg will be offering the new bachelor's degree „Medical Biology“. The course aims to convey the diversity of the biomedical science disciplines and therefore facilitates a multi-faceted, biological understanding for topics which are essential for medicine.The course content ranges from the small scale structure of the cell and organs and organ systems to the biology of complex interpersonal interactions.
    150 participants have already taken the opportunity to register for more than 50 courses on IT and digitialisation at the ditact_women's IT summer studies at the University of Salzburg, which will take place from the 01.09.-12.09.2020.Registration is still possible until the 12. July and then the remaining places will be taken as last minute reservations.
