American researchers at the Benaroya Research Institute in Seattle (USA) recently identified a specific type of immune cell in human blood. Immunologists from the University of Salzburg under the direction of Biologist Dr. Iris Gratz discovered and tested this special helper T-cell population in the skin, as well.

The Salzburg biologist Gerhard Obermeyer has received almost 400,000 Euro from the FWF Science Fund for a pollen research project, which makes an important contribution to the future safeguarding of harvest yields of food crops.

New Therapy for Knee Pain

In his dissertation, the sports scientist, Florian Rieder from the University of Salzburg, came to the conclusion that vibration training has a developing effect on the patellar tendon at the knee. Now, the FWF is funding a follow-up study that examines whether this training also helps as a therapy for knee pain due to degeneration of the patella tendon (tendinopathy). Participants are being sought for this sports medicine study.

President of the International Criminal Court opened Summer School at the University of Salzburg

    The Austrian Academy of Sciences has awarded Mag. Dr. Daniel Ehrmann, university assistant and doctoral candidate in the Department of German Studies, four year APART-Grant, which he will start on the1. 3. 2021.During this time he will complete his post doctoral thesis project „Aggregation. Relationaliity and the Constellations of Literature (1650 – 1950). Toward a medium range historical model.

    The project funding programme for research between PLUS and South East Asian partner universities, ASEA-UNINET Call 2021-2022 (Project implementation period: 1st October 2021 - 30th September 2022) is now open.
    Prof. Dr. Jude Lal Fernando, Assistant Professor at the Irish School of Ecumenics at Trinity College Dublin, will be holding lectures in SS 2021 on the topic of "Interreligious Relations in Asia" at the Centre for Intercultural Theology in the area of Religious Studies.
